Our Story

Background of Our Clinic

Treasuring each precious life — and every family.

Why did we choose to call this a "family" clinic?
After living for about fifty years, I found myself with a deep and personal attachment to the idea of family.

For as long as I can remember, my mother and father never seemed to get along. They argued constantly, and eventually they divorced. When my father passed away, neither my mother nor my sister came to the funeral. I stood there alone, holding his ashes… A family like that — it was just too heartbreaking for words.

Fortunately, from the age of three months I was placed in another home, and it was a truly happy one. Everything I am today, I owe to the time I was able to spend in that family's care.

And yet, when I think about it — if my birth parents hadn't entrusted me to that family, I wouldn't be the person I am now. It makes me feel that fate works in the most mysterious ways.

Building a life together, finding understanding in one another, creating a home, and keeping that home filled with happiness for years to come — it isn't easy. Life brings so many unexpected things along the way.

Even when a family breaks apart, I believe that two people who found each other among so many and built something together — even for just a brief moment — were brought together by some bond in this world. And the fact that each of us is here today is itself proof that a "family" existed somewhere in our story.

At Keldsen Family Clinic, we want to warmly care for every family — whether it's just one person or many, whatever form it takes. We are committed to cherishing and caring for each and every precious life that, by some beautiful twist of fate, came to exist in this world.

Dr. Yoshie Tanaka

"I'm tired of living…"

Since becoming a physician, I have encountered many patients who have expressed exactly these words.

Conducting examinations and tests, making a diagnosis, and prescribing medication.
I have long wondered whether this alone truly represents the best possible care for each patient.
It is a question I have carried with me throughout my career.

Despite receiving standard care, there have been lives that were suddenly, unexpectedly lost.

Through countless encounters with lives hanging in the balance, I have come to believe that medicine and physicians alone have their limits when it comes to protecting each precious, irreplaceable life.

Every patient comes with their own unique background — their upbringing, daily life, family, relationships, and work.

It was this belief — that I wanted to care for patients not just physically, but holistically, taking their life circumstances and personal background into account, and truly being present for them emotionally — that led me to choose the path of psychiatry.

Alongside my work in hospital-based psychiatry, I have also developed expertise in primary care — visiting elderly care facilities and patients' homes directly as a Home Visit Care physician, providing comprehensive initial treatment.

In opening Keldsen Family Clinic, we are committed to the following guiding principles:

  • To become a natural part of each person's everyday life,
and care for mind and body as one.
  • To provide care that embraces the whole family.
  • To reach patients through Home Visit Care and Telemedicine,
and support as many people as possible.
  • To collaborate with a wide range of local specialists
    in delivering care.
  • To extend care to patients in remote areas.
  • To serve both foreign residents and visitors in Japan.

Physicians come in many forms. Some excel at tackling complex diseases in advanced medical centers, performing specialized surgeries, and pioneering innovative treatments one after another.

And then there are physicians like me — those whose strength lies not only in treating illness, but in truly listening to and connecting with each patient as a person.

Whether you're feeling just a little worn down by life, unsure of what the future holds, struggling with physical symptoms that keep you from doing what you love, or simply in need of someone to talk to — we hope that Keldsen Family Clinic can be a place where your heart can rest.
